Oedipus the king live a mixed and confused life. From the day he was born to the day he went blind. Even though his tragic life was not caused by some thing he did but the fault of his ancestor. The god of the ancient Greece did not for give his father or him and punish them in the worse way possible, death to his father and marry his mother. Oedipus did not deserve the terrible things that happened in his life because it was not his fault but his ancestor fault. Eternal powers control our lives, and we do not think you are their equal; yet we pray to you, as your children believing that you, more than any man, may direct events and come, too terms with the powers beyond us. This quote from the priest in the play points out that no matter how hard you try to avoid some things they always come back and get you from the back. This proves that no matter how hard Oedipus and his father tried to avoid the curse that condemned them by Apollo because long ago one of Oedipus ancestors killed Apollo beloved snake so Apollo put a curse on the family. This show that oedipus did not deserve what the curse force in to his life. The wisdom of the priest sets fear, fear beating in our blood; truth or lies nothing comforts, nothing denies. This quote given by the chorus shows that Oedipus was emotionally blind because when he got his readings at the Oracle at Delphi it showed that he would murder his father and marry his mother, so he ran away thinking that Polypus and Merge were his parents. Oedipus not know ran blinded by the readings of the oracle toward Thebes where Laius and Jocasta lived . Not know again he ran in to his biological father and killed him because he wanted to stand his ground on a road . After arriving at Thebes he became king and married his mother living to the readings from the oracle. Even thought Oedipus tried to fix his problem he made it worse . But not know him self made it harder for him to believe. Oedipus really tried to fix his problem but fail doing so. Light , now turn black and die; I must not look on you. This quote is given by Oedipus after he finds out that indeed he married his mother and killed his father know this he takes the golden clips from jocastas strangled body and deliberately blinds himself. Oedipus did this to himself because he finds out after being blind from the truth that his fate has become his own life. No matter how hard people run from their life, fate seem to catch up from all direction possible, like Oedipus many people think that running away from problem is the best way to go. But time again and again proves that the best way to tackle a problem is head to head . If Oedipus would have stay with his parent a figure out a way to solve the problem this would have never happened . Word Count: 529
